FOPP Covent Garden

1 Earlham St, London WC2H 9LL, UK – 0333 323 8418

Great variety of products available. Staff are very knowledgeable in the music and film department and made some great suggestions when I was shopping there last time. I was looking for a new book to read and was very happy that I managed to find some that really interested me.

I love this store - one of the few CD/Vinyl/DVD/ Bluray stores left in London. Great prices, friendly staff - I rarely go in without buying something. I am hoping that it will be around for many, many years to come. Use it .. or you will lose it. It all happened before .....

If Music

2, 12 D'Arblay St, Soho, London W1F 8DU, UK – 020 7437 4799

If Music is the definition of record, art and rare vintage objects digging at its finest. When I asked some London friends for some suggestions and tips on record shopping in London I was far from knowing that If Music was the finest of them all. Perhaps one of Soho's best kept secret, it was instantly recommend to me by the guys at Sounds of the Universe (a few blocks away) when I asked them for a very specific and also rare album from Lloyd McNeil. If Music is a hidden box of treasures and you will be warmly welcomed by charming and great connoisseur Jean Claude who will guide you through a unique experience of musical education on another level. Actually, the first record that caught my eye at If Music was the one that triggered a sparkle and the one I instantly fell in love with. Such an experience doesn't happen very often, not at the average record shop at least. But, as JC himself defines If Music, this is not your average record shop. This is food for your ears and soul. Really worth the visit and the money as well. :)

I have been buying records for over 40yrs , I came to the conclusion a few years ago , I would rather spend big on one amazing album than by 5 cheap okay albums.... What I found when I entered IF records for the first time , I could get 5 to 10 amazing albums I know I wouldn’t or couldn’t find anywhere in mint condition.... Also with Claude’s great knowledge he has introduced me to some amazing Jazz albums recorded in the 80s... For me best shop in Europe if not the world.

Sounds Of The Universe

7 Broadwick St, Soho, London W1F 0DA, UK – 020 7734 3430

Great independent record store with lots of happening new jazz records, and the home of soul jazz records with their awesome compilations. Well worth checking out if you like listening to Gilles Peterson's show or like jazz, soul, funk, reggae on vinyl.

Really cool record store with a great selection of records. Fun to look around at what they had as it was a little more eclectic than what I am used to. I wouldn't dream of marking them down for not having a pop album the day it was released, but as this was the 3rd record store I'd gone to within 2 blocks of our flat and none of the 3 had the Harry Styles album on date of release, I was a little bummed. I understand their target audience doesn't go in for that kind of thing necessarily, however I had to go to a much larger chain to find something that I would have been happy to pay a higher price at a smaller business to get.
